Little doubt has led to a heinous crime! But the way entire incident happened really is matter of concern for the society.

Puja (20) a native of remote Katchariya village under Buddhu Chak PS in Kahalgaon sub division at Bhagalpur didn’t think even her wildest dream that she had to pay her live in the hands of her lover, Suraj Kumar (23) a native of Bariya, a neighbouring village.

Suraj along with his friend, Shrawan Kumar managed puja to come out from her house with them and finally slit opened her throat  near Rakshisthan, a sacred place where devotes offer animal sacrifices to please a tribal deity. Rakshisthan is located some 25-26 km east of Buddhu Chak and falling under the jurisdictions of Mirjachouki PS in neighbouring Sahebganj district of Jharkhand.

The incident happened at around 3 pm on May 31 when local people found the body of Puja in a pool of bloods and caught Suraj and his friend Shrawn who were managing to flee after killing the girl. The villagers handed over the duo to Mirjachouki PS. “As we were informed about the incident by the local villagers, we rushed to the spot and recovered the sharp weapon near the dead body of the girl. Villagers also handed the two youths to us,” told Sanjiv Kant Mishra, SHO of Mirjachouki PS in Sahebganj.

In his confession before Mirjachouki police, Suraj said that he and Puja was in deep love for the last two years but last year parents of the girl forcefully married Delhi. According to him after marriage, puja never went to her husband at Delhi but developed her relation with another youth. He did not mention detail of the second lover of Puja but confessed that the marriage and developing relation with another youth, made him much angered. “I decided to eliminate her forever,” he told before the police.

As per the plan, Suraj and his friend somehow forced Puja to come out from her house  and set out her on a motorcycle which belongs to Suraj on the morning of May 31. After covering the distance of 25-26 km, they reached at Rakshisthan, an isolated place where they killed the girl near the sacred place, said Mishra. “Suraj said they planned to kill her and left her body inside Jharkhand’s areas so that nobody could doubt on them,” Mishra added further from the version of Suraj’s  confession.

The incident has spread a shock wave at Buddhu Chak and its adjacent parts. Radhe Mandal father of the ill-fated girl along with others in the family rushed to Sahebganj to receive the body of Puja where the autopsy was conducted. Similarly, the male members of the family of the two accused also rushed to Sahebganj as the two youths were forwarded to judicial custody there. However village sources at Buddhu Chak said that both the families of the girl and the boys are agriculture background but the two youths were unemployed but used to help the parents in farming.

Social scientists and persons concerned of criminology expressed their deep concern over the incident. “The incident was indeed a reflection of the society particularly on the frustration prevailing among youths today,” they pointed out.
