Reckless driving and violation of traffic norms in absence of any regulatory to keep watch on traffic, traveling on NH-31 (Assam road) not only has become unsafe but also fatal.
Five persons travelling on auto rickshaw on NH-31 (Assam road) this morning were killed when a speedy tracked dashed the vehicle. The incident happened on the NH-31 near Balaha village falling under the jurisdictions of additional PS, Bhavanipur in Naugachia police district.
The victims are identified as Mithilesh Yadav, a teacher and native of Saharsa, Sintu Kumar of Banka, Ramchandra Ram of Nagar Gram of Naugachia. While the identification of another deceased was yet not confirmed. The auto rickshaw driver a native of Naugachia succumbed to his injury on way to JLNMC hospital, Bhagalpur.
Helpless Bhavanipur police failed such rush careless driving on NH, also failed to nab the killer truck as truck driver managed to escape with the vehicle.
“In other states light vehicles are not permitted on the vehicle to play on NH and there are strict laws against the violators of such restrictions,” said Mukesh Kumar, a native of Naugachai and a practicing lawyer at Patna High court. He alleged that the stretch from Pesraha to Purnea of the NH-31 became a fatal zone where daily 5-6 accidents take place mainly due to violation of traffic norms.
“I was narrowly escaped last year in July when the rickshaw on which I am returning from the court was dashed by a speedy public bus near bus stand which is located beside the NH-31,” said Depinder Kumar, a lawyer at Naugachia court.
When asked superintendent of police, Naugachia, Nidhi Rani about the reckless driving and subsequently the playing of light vehicles like auto rickshaw and even rickshaw on busy NH, she said police yet not have any instruction so far to put light vehicles off from the NH. She said that police yet not has any such instructions from the authority concerned of NH division here.
However when asked about traffic system at Naugachia , she said that since the NH is passing through the township, it is very difficult to regulate the traffic properly. “There is no service road or like other places the NH is not separated from the town ship. Here the situation is completely different, the NH is the only option for the residents, the railway station, market, bus stand everything is beside NH and there is no service road separately here,” she pointed out.
Government should immediately take notice of such problem said many. Ajit Kumar Singh a Bhagalpur based human right activist said that the problem is same at Bhagalpur city where NH-80 is passing through the heart of the city and such fatal accidents are very common at Bhagalpur city. He however said that Naugachia township does not have any alternative road system but at Bhagalpur since the construction of the bypass road is delayed, the traffic system not only become compounded but also turned fatal.
