Vested interests groups have geared up for establishing their supremacy for grabbing smart city’s funds !

Last evening one Binoy Gupta, husband of Sandhya Gupta, ward councilor from ward No-41 along with Sanjay Sinha and Promod Lal, all ward councilors from ward No 21 and 26 along with their associates entered inside the office of Bhagalpur municipal corporation (BMC) in dead-drank conditions and created large scale vandalism. They manhandled the IAS town commissioner and  some staffs , ransacked the office and also looted BMC’s cash and documents. They also abused some of the staffs with indicating their caste and creeds, a punishable offence in the eye of the law in the country.

Trouble started at BMC.

In retaliation, more than 1300 staffs of BMC including workers at Barai waterworks- drinking water treatment plant, and the scavengers have joined at pen-down strike from last evening against the vandalism created by the ward councilors. The agitating BMC workers threatened to disrupt drinking water supply in the city to press their demands for immediate arresting of two ward councilors along with Binoy Gupta. They also demanded immediate suspension of the two ward councilors from their posts.

Last evening Binoy Gupta, Sanjay Sinha and Promod Lal along with their associates entered inside BMC offices  in drunken states and started the vandalism. They ransacked the office and abused the staffs but when town commissioner, S B Meena come out from his chamber to controll the situation, he was manhandled by Binoy Gupta. However, some BMC staffs somehow save Meena from the worst happenings as the councilors and their musclemen also tried to attack him.  However, the irate BMC staffs who retaliated latter, nabbed two associates of Binoy Gupta, Amar Kumar and Tuntun Gupta and handed over them to police in the late evening. Later the it was cleared that Amar Kumar, the driver of Smart city’s agency PDMC was capturing video on mobile and was beaten up by the BMC staffs. Amar Kumar was set free on last late evening.

The FIR registered with Adampur PS against the two councilor along with Binoy Gupta besides four unknown persons, several serious offense like looting of cash and important documents of BMC offices, assaulting town commissioner and some staffs, abusing while  using caste related abuses, destroying government documents etc alleged against the accused persons. More than 25 staffs including Meena enlisted his name to police as witnesses in the case.

BMC staffs stage dharna against the vandalism .

All the accused persons have criminal antecedents and they virtually created reign of terror inside BMC campus since long to establish their supremacy, alleged some staffs of BMC who have been staging dharna since last evening inside BMC campus. Heaps of garbage have started pilling up at the parts of the city due to the strike of the staffs including the scavengers. “We will soon disrupt drinking water supply system in the city and the staffs have joined with us,” said a staff of BMC. Despite Meena urged the agitating staffs to withdraw the strike but they remain adamant for it unless the arresting of all the accused persons involved in the incident last evening.

Meena mentioned the incident as very unfortunate as because the councilors created vandalism over more than half hour and most of other councilors were remained mute spectators. While condemning the  incident he said that such incidents would fall  impact on the ongoing smart city project here

Senior superintendent of police, Manoj Kumar  said police already arrested Tuntun Gupta, a relative of main accused, Binoy Gupta last evening while police has stared conducting raids to nab the other accused persons named in the FIR.

Mayor ,Seema Sha and Rajesh Verma, deputy mayor who claimed to  be unfazed and unaware of  incident initially, tried their level best to convince the agitating staffs with ensuring them the action against the guilty persons involved in the incident. Sanjay Sinha and Promod Lal was not available for their version. But  ward

Staffs at Barari waterworks also join in strike.

councilor from ward No 41, Sandhya Gupta wife of Binoy Gupta said that since she was not keeping well, her husband along her relative, Tuntun Gupta went the town commissioner for making him aware about drinking water crisis in her ward. “The drinking water crisis became a serious issue in my ward the situation remains tensed here in this ward. According to her she earlier  gave  written complains to the town commissioner but not action yet been taken on this issue,” she told. She said she don’t know what exactly happened yesterday at BMC but her husband did not returned back to home last night. She also claimed that her relative Tuntun was innocent, he was just accompanying her husband.

Observers said the incident was the result of showing supremacy by the ward councilor. “If they are fighting for grabbing the funds of Smart City action plane, it is their foolishness as because not a single councilor even including the mayor has to do noting with Smart City project,” an official source pointed out here. But many claimed that some of the ward councilors have started adopting the  strategy  for influencing higher officer concerned with their supremacy just for solving their vested interests.
