A talent in Bihar is again on the verge of collapse : thanks to irresponsible and corrupt bureaucracy concerned !

Meet 16 year-old Minu Soren, a tribal girl from a remote village Kirtaniya under Pirpainty block of Bhagalpur. But she has the talent- she recently won gold in under 19 national school athletic. She has started the preparation for world Olympic  but the sudden decision of her school management to close down the state sponsored Eklabya Rajya Avashiya athletic Valika Prashikshan Kendra (Eklabya residential sports training center), has robbed off all the dreams of Menu.

The residential training sports training center has been running under zero finance from the state government and keeping in view the food scarcity among the inmates in the center, the principal of the school in a letter to district magistrate, Bhagalpur intimated the decision of school management to close the school.

Menu a student of class 11 at Government girls inter school, Bhagalpur where the Eklabya training center is running recently, won gold in javelin throwing in 63 National school game (athletics-19 years), recently concluded at Rajiv Gandhi sports complex, Rohtak in Haryana from December 18-22. “She performed excellently while scoring the record of 44.41 meter in javelin throwing. Earlier one Pushpa Jakhar once in 2006 had created national record of 46.38 meter in this category, Minu could crack the record,” claimed Rajiv Lochan, coach of Minu.

Earlier, Minu also won gold in javelin throwing at 62 SGFI national school under 17 championship at Borodara, Gujrat on February 20-23, 2017, Rajiv recalled. “She is a talented player of Bihar who would glorify the history of the country in world,” he claimed.

Minu, a tribal from a sleepy village Kirtaniya falling under Pirpainty block in Bhagalpur hails from poor family background. “My father, Mansingh Soren and mother Hiramani Hansdak are very poor. My father a daily wage labourer in private stone mining on the hills at neghbouring Sahebganj district of Jharkhand. My two brothers also works there. It’s Eklavya residential training center operating in my school for which I could participate in such events,” she admitted cordially.

“The center provides me shelter along with best foods and all expenses for my study and other things. If the center really will close, my sport career will be finished because my parents could not afford it. I would will have to leave this place and will join with my father atop Sahebganj hills to break stones,” tears roll down from her cheek.

Dr. Subhash Kumar Jha, principal of Government girls inter school, Bhagalpur in a letter (letter No 64/ Dec 25,2017) to district magistrate-cum- president of district Eklavya residential sports training center, Bhagalpur, informed for closing down the residential sports training center from January,1, 2018. In the letter Dr Jha mentioned the prevailing pathetic condition and apathy of government towards the center which is run by state’s cultural and youth affairs mainly to promote sports in district level.

This center was shifted from Gokhla Mission school, Pirpainty on August 9, 2016 by the district magistrate, Bhagalpur after founding many irregularities. “Since the day the residential center was shifted at this school, not a single pie was given by the government through district sports official, Bhagalpur. In financial year 2016-17 , total amount of Rs 1,69,148  the dues of this center was not paid. In the financial year 2017-18, money for only four months were paid while the other dues are still pending. The amount of Rs 1,32,525 is only required for monthly expenditure on foods for the inmates in the center. But since the amount yet not been received, local shopkeepers have started giving ultimatum for stopping the supply of raw materials. So it is not safe to continue this center while keeping in view the food problems of the inmates of this residential sport training center,” Dr Jha wrote to the district magistrate.

“How could I allow the students to face starvation here? rather it would be better to close the center,” he said.

Adesh Titarmare, district magistrate didn’t give his comment but a source from his office blamed official concerned for closing down the center as their vested interests are not solving here like Pirpanity.

“There were massive irregularities at Pirpainty center where inmates were even not properly given foods. The nexus of the official concerned and the corrupt people managed to pocket huge amount in their pockets which was stopped at Bhagalpur. And they managed to stop the flow of the funds from Patna,” claimed an established source.

“If really this center will be closed down who would be responsible for running the career of such talents like Minu in Bihar?” is the common question on many lips.
