Good news for the students who want  to join in IT faculty for  their charrier. Especially students from this poor region now would have the privilege to study their choice subject, ie, IT faculty here at Bhagalpur without going distant places.

Education corridor at Bhagalpur would going to add the chapter of  newly established Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT).  Probably, the new faculty would be inaugurated by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar in coming August.  Union human resource development (HRD) minister Prakash Javadekar likely to be present here on that occasion.

Director of Science and technology department, Bihar, Atul Sinha, said the IIIT, first time in Bihar, would function from its temporary campus on the premises of Bhagalpur College of Engineering (BCE). “ Hope the permanent campus would come up in the next two to three years,  and for that 50 acres of land on BCE premises had been transferred to the IIIT for the purpose,” he told media persons.

It is to be mentioned here that the institute would be mentored by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati.  According to sources, admission for first session would be taken against 120 seats, 60 each in computer science and engineering (CSE) and electronics and communication engineering (ECE).  The sources however claimed that number of seats for students upto 300 gradually be increased in the new institute . Besides teaching in more disciplines would also be increased accordingly.

Central government had borne 50% of the establishment cost while the state government had provided 35%.The remaining 15% had been shared by the industry partner, Bihar State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (Beltron), the sources pointed out.

The seat details of IIIT had been already made available to the joint seat allocation authority (JoSSA) for selection of candidates. The mentor institution would responsible  for the appointment of faculty for IIIT, the sources added. Pinakeswar Mahanta, head of mechanical engineering department at IIT, Guwahati, has been appointed director of IIIT.

Officials from the Union HRD ministry and the science and technology department of Bihar government visited Bhagalpur for starting the new institute.

The proposed IIIT would later introduce courses in some other disciplines, like information technology, robotics and bioinformatics, informed Mahanta who was also at Bhagalpur.

The proposed institute would initially start  with 10 faculty members  at the temporary campus  as it is  sufficient to start of teaching at the IIIT, the source claimed.

Sources from BCE said that  the propoed  IIIT would function temporarily from the computer science department’s building of the college. Male and girls students of this new faculty would be adjusted in the existing hostels of BCE inside the campus temporarily.

“Opening of this new faculty would help me to make my dreams true. I want to joint in IT faculty but I left my ideas since my family could not afford for the study in distant place. But with opening of it, I have again started dreaming, hope in the next session I somehow manage to complete the entrance test for it,” joyfully told Rakesh Kumar, a class 12 ( science faculty) and native of Bhagalpur city.
