Former controversial mayor, Bhagalpur who is also an influential JD-U leader, Dipak Buhwaniya could be trapped by the economic offence unit (EOU), Bihar for his disproportionate properties which he allegedly accumulated through crimes.

Troubles go ahead of Bhuwaniya along with his old friend, Sanjay Sinha, ward councilor from Ward No 21 here who were also made accused by police in noted murder episode of Dibesh Singh, a former Congress leader here on 2006.

Economic offence unit (EOU), Bihar directed senior superintendent of police (SSP), Bhagalpur to prepare a proposal for attachment of disproportionate properties of the duo which they allegedly accumulated by illegal criminal acts.

The duo are alleged for accumulated huge properties from criminal activities. Police during investigation found that the Congress leader was killed on July 26, 2006 here in land related dispute. Police claimed Bhuwaniya and Sinha along with others were involved in the murder of the Congress leader.

However , the EOU has expressed serious concerned over non compliance of its previous same directive to the SSP, Bhagalpur in 2014. EOU also asked present SSP to prepare proposal for attaching the properties of suspected accused of Om Baba murder case at Bhagalpur. Bhuwaniya is a suspected accused in the case also.

According to sources, proceedings  initiated by EOU would against Bhuwaniya and Sinha under prevention of moneylending act 2002. EOU has been waiting for the proposal of attachment of properties of the duo since from 2014 as the department earlier on 2014 asked the than SSP, Bhagalpur to send the proposal so that the disproportionate properties which they allegedly accumulated by crimes could be attached. However, the EOU yet not receive any such proposal from SSP, Bhagalpur.

Similarly, the EOU also directed SSP, Bhagalpur to send proposal for attaching the properties of the accused persons involved in another noted murder incident of one Om Baba. Om Baba alias Omla Mungeriya was killed inside Devi Babu Dharmashala on June 21, 2013  and Kanihya Sawrabgi, Pawan Daluka, Sanjiv Kumar was made accused by the police along former mayor, Bhuwaniya. Om Baba was also killed for the land dispute with the accused persons.  Similarly, the EOU earlier on 2014 directed the than SSP, Bagalpur to send proposal for attaching the properties of the named persons which they accumulated with criminal acts.

Bhagalpur Manoj Kumar said that in wake of the EOU’s directive he already assigned a Dy. SP rank official to complete all formalities related to the proposal of attachment of properties of the accused persons in the two murder cases. “No one would be spare if any evidence would be found for accumulating properties through criminal activities,” Kumar.

Both Bhuwaniya and Sinha was not available for their comments but police sources said that Bhuwaniya was involved in many cases in police records but due to influence, he managed to set aside all cases. “However it is another fact that he manages the things so far,” said a police official here on condition of anonymity.

Earlier Dinesh Singh, a lawyer turned RTI activist highlighted an old case filed against Bhuwaniya in which the court announced him as fugitive as he escaped from the court to avoid one month imprisonment awarded by the court to him. Singh also highlighted how Bhuwaniya managed to conceal all facts related to his criminal antecedents when he earlier contested the ward councilor polls and subsequently became mayor in Bhagalpur municipal corporation.
