Lawyer murder case : Bhagalpur erupts, lawyers’ strike enters forth day, court’s works remain defunct

Even after passing over more than four days, Bhagalpur police still in dark even to ascertain how any why the 35 year-old young energetic lawyer, Md. Md Mazrul Haque alias Arju was killed?

Failure of police to investigate the case however erupted here after lawyers here under the banner of district bar association (DBA) today boisterously demonstrated here after staging a Dharana outside the civil court here. The agitating lawyers also blocked the traffic at busy Katchari Chwak today causing massive traffic jam. The lawyers were protesting over the delay of police to nab the culprits involved in the heinous crime. Lawyers’ strike also hamper court works here which remains paralyzed for the four consecutive day today.

Lawyers’ strike directly affected on common mass in procuring different court works. “I have been running pillar to post here since October 13 to bail out my husband who false fully implicated in a case. Today I failed to move his bail petition,” said Radiya Devi, a native of Sultanganj.

Not only Radiya Devi but a large number of people are deprived off having justice and other court related works as the lawyers here boycotted the court works completely. Patna High court has expressed serious concerned over the complete disruption of court works here for the four consecutive day today.

A top ranking source disclosed here that Patna High court today asked the justification of boycotting of court works since a PIL has been filled with Patna High court by Bihar Yuva Adhivakta Kalyan Samittee related to the incident today. The acknowledgement of the PIL earlier filled earlier came today with token number.

“The lawyers should have faith in the court and since the matter is now under court’s preview, they immediately should join to their duties for restoration of  courts’ work,” a senior authority of the civil court said today. The authority on condition of anonymity pointed out the immense hardship face by a common man due to the lawyers’ strike here.

Sanjoy Modi, secretary, DBA, Bhagalpur however alleged that even after passing of over four days, police still in dark to have any clue of the brutal murder or nab any culprits despite the fact that team of SIT was constituted to solve the murder mystery of the young lawyer, Md Mazrul Haque alias Arju (35). “We want justice and until the murders of Arju would be put behind the bards, not a single lawyer will go for court works,” Modi said.

The members of DBA today staged a dharna outside civil court premises here and latter a procession was taken out in court areas. The agitating lawyers who aired slogans against the district administration and police for its failure to find out the culprits of the murder, also put a road blockade at busy Kathchari chawk causing massive traffic jam.

It is to be mentioned here that on October 12, Arju left his chamber at Bhagalpur in the afternoon after receiving a call on his mobile. In the evening when he did not returned back to his chamber and also to his house, some DAB members and his family members approached police here. “We requested the police to initiate but it did not listen and on the next day the dead body of Aruj with multiple injury was recovered from an isolated place under the jurisdiction of Pothia PS in Katihar district,” alleged Modi. He further alleged Arju who was also a RTI activist, fighting against the land mafias who allegedly captured valuable lands belonging to the graveyards at Habibpur localities in Bhagalpur and other parts in the city.

Lawyers stormed the streets against the brutal murder of their colleague.

 

“He earlier applied for the license of a fire arm and several time approached officer concerned here while apprehending threat on his life. But his request for the license of fire arm was turned down and even on the fateful evening of the incident, ie on October 12 when we approached police, it turned our request. Had the police swan into action, the criminals would not have managed to kill him while taking him away to Kitihar,” Modi alleged further.

SSP, Bhagalpur, Monoj Kumar said SIT has been working and collected many important clues. “Since in the FIR of the case was lodged against unknown persons, course of investigation is not became so easy. We hope to conclude the case very soon,” he told today. Authorities concerned of civil court however preferred to be tightlipped on the episode.

Senior members of DAB, Bhagalpur expressed their serious concerned over the incident. “If lawyers are not safe than how justice could be delivered?” said many senior lawyers. They pointed out one recent incident which happened a few day back of Arju’s murder, when criminals snatched money from a lawyer near civil court here. The lawyer was coming from bank when the incident happened. Police yet not found any clue of the criminals involved in the crime, they alleged.
