Black coats Vs Khaki : lawyers march on streets to protest police inaction

The men in black coats who professionally engaged in courts to manage justice to their clients, today marched on the streets here for having justice for them !

The lawyers at Bhagalpur who have been on war path for having justice in two cases, the killing episode of a young lawyer and justice for the sensational incident in which cops entered inside district bar association (DBA), Bhagalpur’s building and ransacked it. And in both the cases they targeted police for its indifferent attitude.

Lawyers under the banner of DBA, Bhagalpur  today taken out a silent procession on the streets here to protest the police inactions.

The silent process with active participation of  lawyers along with sizable female lawyers this afternoon was taken out from the DBA building located in the court campus here and passed through different streets here.

Sanjoy Kumar Modi, general secretary , DBA, Bhagalpur alleged that even after passing more than one month, police investigation hardly has any achievement to nab the culprits involved in the brutal murder of a lawyer-cum-RIT activist Md Mazrul Haque alias Arju (31). He also alleged top ranking cops here for their failure to punish the culprits police personnel who confronted with the lawyers here who were protesting the killing episode of Arjoo and also ransacked the DBA building while entering inside it  on October 16 last and also manhandled some lawyers there. “The law and order situation gradually deteriorating here mainly due to ineffective policing,” he alleged further.

Ill-fated Md Mazrul Haque alias Arju, who disappeared from Bhagalpur court and his body was found at Katihar.

Earlier Arju who had been fighting against the illegal grabbing of lands belongs to graveyards of minority community here,  was dramatically disappeared from the court premises on October 12 and his dead body with multiple injuries were recovered from isolated place falling under Pothia PS in Katihar district. SIT headed by City Dy. SP, S. Akthar however arrested two persons but yet not  find the main masterminds involved in the incident.

“We want justice for the slain lawyer but how it could possible when the police investigation delaying unnecessary. We want removal of the SIT team head probing the lawyer murder episode,” Modi pointed out. He also alleged that the culprits police men who ransacked DBA building on October 16 mainly to curb the voice of the lawyers against police’s inaction, yet not punished.

Many hurdles on the way !

“We would intensify agitational programmes if our demands of arresting of the culprits involved in Arju case and also punishment for the cops who ransacked DBA building would not ensure soon,” Modi pointed out.  A delegation led by DBA president, Rajendra Mandal called on the district and session judge, Bhagalpur, Arvind Madhav and handed him a memorandum today also.

Bhagalpur earlier also witnesses lawyer-police clash on 1997 in which police men went rampage in court premises and beaten lawyers mercilessly. The state government had to set up a commission and many cops including then than superintendent of police  who found guilty were punished and many were sent to jail. “Same situation had appeared with the Arju murder episode but due to tactfully managing of the situation, another major incident was averted here,” observers said here.
